So we begin again

Ok this transition is so much harder than I ever thought it could be. We have been making so many more vegan choices lately and now seem to have the girls more on board. I have been cooking them foods like potato pancakes with broccoli and spinach or black bean and brown rice patties. They really like those and at least they are healthier options. They just aren't ready to be all raw or even mostly raw but at least I can get them to eat fruits all day and they drink mainly just water. Duke and I have been more on a cooked food kick lately which has not helped at all. So yesterday I decided I was doing another 3 day green smoothie challenge and he decided to join me. With this three day challenge I am not going to have any sweet tea....which is ok because I am really liking hot teas now and I have a liver detoxing tea to drink with this challenge. I am also fully switching from smoking traditional cigarettes to smoking the blu electronic cigarette which contains no harmful chemicals. This is probably the biggest hurdle for me. The plan is to one day not be any kind of smoker but for right now I will take the healthier one over the cancer causing one. They are flavored so they taste like vanilla, java, mint, cherry, or tobacco flavored. So I might push this smoothie challenge to five days if it works out really well. Eventually we will work up to a juice feast, I just don't know :) Duke seems to think he needs food, but I think he just transferred over his smoking addiction to food and is afraid to not have it. We will keep you posted!

Green Smoothies Galore

So for months we have been eating more raw foods, eliminated meat from our diet, and limited the amount of dairy we took in. We have been feeling so much better and there has been little sickness in the house. We still had some issues though and one of them is weight loss. Duke and I have just maintained our weight without losing anything further. So in an attempt to get this jump started we have chosen to only consume green smoothies and green juices for 2 days. So it was really tough for me, not giving up food, but not having any sweet tea. Amazingly enough I accomplished that and have added a day onto this green smoothie detox. I lost a total of 4 pounds doing it and feel like I actually accomplished something. I drank sweet tea like it was water. I can't say that I will never drink it again but I will not make it at home anymore. That way I can keep Lillian and Caitlin from becoming sweet tea addicts like myself. The not eating part was easy enough. I felt satisfied with every green smoothie I drank. So we have decided to do this every month and work our way up to 21 days straight. It is great for detoxing the body when it doesn't have to spend all of its time digesting the endless amount of foods we put into our bodies. We will keep you posted though and let me know if you would like me to share some great green smoothie recipes with you!
